Vibrant Connection: “What is one memory that can always make you laugh out loud?” On a family visit to Cape Town, South Africa we climbed Table Mountain. I had promised my daughter Savannah who was 4 or 5 at the time, that if she climbed the mountain by herself, we would get her a bicycle. She had heard there was a restaurant at the end of the climb which she was desperate to see. Close to the end, she came round a corner and saw a large group of people to which she bellowed, “Where’s this damn restaurant!?” Everyone except Savannah burst out laughing and that memory still makes me laugh today.
What are you thankful for right now? I’m thankful for health, peace and personal relationships. I’m also thankful for getting to know myself a lot better. I live in a beautiful place and really glean strength from the incredible beauty around me. My family and close friends are the most valuable thing I have.
Who inspires you? My daughters Savannah and Mirielle inspire me. I am so proud of the strong, grounded, confident and successful woman that they are. I’m so humbled to be their farther. They are the greatest gift I have ever been given.
Sunrises or sunsets? Definitely sunrises. I don’t think sunrises are as pretty as sunsets, they just mean a lot more to me. On a road trip, I really enjoy waking up and getting on the road early to see how the sun wakes up unfamiliar landscapes with its light and warmth. Dew, mist, low morning clouds with sunshine breaking through are some of my favorite natural treats.
What legacy do you want to leave? I’m not concerned with leaving a legacy. Living in the moment is more important to me than the future, especially one that I won’t be part of. That said, it’s a family tradition for parents to leave their children in a better position than their parents left them in. I have achieved this and am very proud and grateful for that.
How do you reconnect with yourself? When I drive alone and when I exercise I am able to process personal things. I often speak to myself during this time and analyze and evaluate facets of my life that are important or interesting to me.
Who is your favorite soccer team? By far my favorite sports team is Liverpool. My dad supports Liverpool and ever since I can remember, we all supported this great club. Every time I hear the fans at the beginning of a match sing, “You’ll Never Walk Alone!” I get tears in my eyes. Such an incredible sporting tradition. My dog Shankly is named after Liverpool’s great coach Bill Shankly. I’m proud to be a lifelong Liverpool fan. YNWA!
