The Art of Loving Slowly

(Excerpts from “Poetry Meets Photography” Exhibit featuring John Leslie Lange,  the author of “Hafiz and I,” a collection of poems inspired by the writings of the Sufi masters, Hafiz and Rumi and Julie Kruger,  a professional photographer and artist who specializes in dreamy landscapes populated by the emotions of love and longing. This presentation is a collaboration of their work in the form of a conversation between John’s poetry and Julie’s images).

“Please love me,”

She said,

“Just very slowly.”

A softly whispered plea,

A plan.

“Please serve me Love

In a wine glass.

A tender bouquet,

A sip,

A memory

To be savored.

Let’s explore

The drawn out moments,

A stroll,

Through Kairos time,

Faces close,

In quiet conversation.

Let’s dance,

But a slow dance,

Move gently

To the music,

The music of slow fire.

Let’s speak in poems

Measure words

And rhythm,

And many layered

Meanings.

Let’s linger over details,

Build dramatic

Tension.

The sensory unwrapping

Of a precious gift.

We can only do this once,

So let’s become

Experts

In the art of loving

Slowly.”
